Two East Central Hornets put pen to paper to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level

Two Hornets officially put pen to paper to further their academic and athletic careers on Thursday.

Outfielder Matthew Combs let the ink dry with Colin Community College, and shortstop Jaxon Cripps will take his talents to Holmes Community College.

“Oh it means everything,” Cripps said. “All the work from T-ball and going to all these hitting lessons and fielding practices and stuff like that. All the hard work has paid off. All the work that Coach Beau and Coach Knight and Coach G has put in for me, it’s all going to pay off. Being able to grow up playing this sport and now I get to keep going. It means a lot to me.”

“It means a lot just getting to keep playing,” Combs said. “It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and I’m glad that me and Jaxon get to go and stay in touch and go through that journey together. East Central has really taught me how to do things the right way. How to practice hard. Don’t do things the light way, but the right way, and it helps you in the long run.”

The pair already has back-to-back state titles under their belt, but are eager for a third before the next level. Congratulations to both Matthew and Jaxon, and good luck during your senior season.
