Two Deputies Shot
A string of armed robberies in Northern Mississippi ended with deadly gunfire Wednesday night.
Two deputies were injured in the shootout and one suspect was killed.
A Desoto County patrol sergeant was shot in the foot and a K9 officer was shot in the chest.
Officials say they were searching for the suspect Wednesday night after he had committed three armed robberies.
The shooting happened after the officers spotted the suspect’s vehicle in a Kroger parking lot and made traffic stop.
At a press conference early Thursday morning the county sheriff was grateful for the support of surrounding law enforcement…
And spoke out against a recent string of violent crimes in the area.
“We cannot say enough for the agencies that come out to show support for our guys, just like we’d do for them. We’re all a family. Desoto County is fixin’ to buckle down. If you come to Desoto County and break a crime then we’re going to get you, okay?”
– Sheriff Bill Rasco Desoto County
Both officers are expected to make a full recovery.
One has been with the sheriff’s department 8 1/2 years and the other has been with the department 6 1/2 years.
