Two arrested in connection with shooting at Lucedale Walmart

Walmart Shooting
Moody and Williams

Two people were arrested Wednesday in connection with a shooting on Tuesday night at Walmart in Lucedale.

Police Chief Kellum Fairley said 23-year-old Chancellor Moody is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and 20-year-old Emanuel Williams was charged with one count of accessory after the fact. Both were taken to the George County jail and are awaiting an initial appearance.

Police say officers were sent to Walmart about 9:48 p.m. about shots fired in the area.

An investigation revealed that two black males, one wearing a hoodie, the other wearing a tank top turned away from the parking lot and entered the store through the grocery entrance, but then turned in the entrance and started back out of the store as the black male wearing a T-shirt was approaching the building.

The suspect wearing the hoodie pulled a handgun from under the hoodie and fired shots, which appeared to have struck the approaching black male in his upper left shoulder, and struck a white female customer in her foot by a ricocheting bullet while she was entering the store. The two black males then ran to their vehicle and drove away. The male ran into the store and later left.

Fairley said the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Lucedale Police at 601-947-3261.
