Two arrested for assisting fugitives after escape from Orleans Justice Center

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (WXXV)- Two more people have been arrested in connection with the escaped inmates from the Orleans Justice Center.

According to the Louisiana State Police, investigators arrested 32-year-old Cortnie Harris of New Orleans and 38-year-old Corvanntay Baptiste of Slidell.

The initial investigation revealed that before the escape Harris was in contact via phone with an escapee who remains at large.

Investigators also determined that Harris transported two escapees, who remain at large, to multiple locations in New Orleans.

According to the investigation, Baptiste was in contact via phone and social media with escapee Corey Boyd, who has been captured, and helped facilitate getting him food while he was hiding in a residence.

As a result of the investigation, Harris and Baptiste were placed under arrest and charged with one felony count each of LRS 14:25 – Accessories after the fact.

They were transported to and booked into the Plaquemines Parish Detention Center. According to Louisiana law, those convicted of accessory after the fact shall be fined not more than five hundred dollars, or imprisoned, with or without hard labor, for not more than five years, or both.

Law enforcement personnel from multiple local, state, and federal agencies will continue to pursue every lead until the remaining fugitives are located. Five inmates have been located so far and five are still unaccounted for.
