Two arrested after high-speed chase leads to drug seizure in George County
Two people are behind bars in George County after leading deputies on a high-speed chase Monday.
George County Sheriff’s Office officials say the chase began on Highway 98 near Highway 63.
Deputies attempted a traffic stop on a silver Ford Sedan, but the driver refused to stop and fled at speeds over 100 MPH while throwing items out of the vehicle.
Deputies followed the vehicle and were able to bring it to a stop.
The driver was identified as 35-year-old Kaitlyn Smith of Richton, Mississippi. She was taken into custody and charged with fleeing or eluding law enforcement in a motor vehicle. She was also booked on an outstanding justice court warrant for failure to appear.
The passenger was identified as 26-year-old Curtis Remley of Leakesville, Mississippi and is also facing charges.
Following an investigation, deputies recovered a large quantity of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia from the vehicle.
Remley was arrested and charged with trafficking of a controlled substance. He was also booked on an outstanding warrant from MDOC for violation of parole.
Both Smith and Remley remain at the George County Regional Correctional Facility pending their initial appearance before a judge.
