Two Gulfport men arrested in connection with February 15 shooting

On July 3, 2023, the Gulfport Police Department arrested 20-year-old Jalin Lamont Johnson and charged him with two counts of Aggravated Assault and one charge of Trafficking Pharmaceuticals. Jerprice Preston, 22-year-old, was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana.

On February 15, 2023, Officers responded to the area of George Street and Hensley Avenue in reference to a shooting.

Upon arrival, Officers located a vehicle occupied by two victims who were suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to an out-of-state hospital to receive treatment for their injuries.

During the investigation, Detectives learned the victims were traveling to the area with a group of individuals to fight. As the group entered the area of George Street and Hensley Avenue, Johnson discharged a firearm toward the vehicle and subsequently struck both victims.

On July 3, 2023, the Gulfport Police Department, with the assistance of the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department SWAT Team, served a search warrant in the 10000 block of Klein Road. Johnson and Preston were located inside the apartment and found to possess narcotics. During the search of the residence, several bags of marijuana were also recovered.

Johnson and Preston were processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center to be held in lieu of their bonds. Johnson’s bond was set at $1,150,000 and Preston’s was set at $50,000.
