Twelfth Night Celebration

‘Tis the season for king cakes and Mardi Gras beads as the sixth annual Twelfth Night Celebration takes place tomorrow evening in Biloxi.

It’s a tradition that goes way back to celebrate the beginning of Mardi Gras. The celebration starts by marking the end of Christmas by turning off the holiday lights at the lighthouse. This will be followed by a parade that goes down Highway 90 to Biloxi City Hall where Mardi Gras lights will be turned on.

Twelfth Night continues to get bigger and better every year with more locals getting involved to kick off the 2019 Mardi Gras season. Biloxi Historical Administrator Bill Raymond said, “We adopted it here in Biloxi about six years ago. We really have seen the event grow every year with more people wanting to participate. We have more crews wanting to be a part of it. So, it’s been a great event.”

The Gulf Coast Carnival Association’s 2018 Royal Court will turn off the Christmas lights at the lighthouse at 6 p.m. and the parade will start shortly afterwards.
