Turquoise Takeover for Lung Cancer Awareness
Turquoise ties and tops covered Singing River Health Systems Cancer Center today as a way to promote Lung Cancer Awareness.
Every five minutes, a woman in the United States is diagnosed with lung cancer and every eight minutes, a woman dies from lung cancer.
Turquoise is the color of the ribbon often worn to promote lung cancer awareness. Today, the Cancer Center’s research office encouraged the entire department to sport their best turquoise clothing as a way to promote awareness down here along the Coast.
The Coast has one of the highest rates in the state for lung cancer among women. Maggie Clarkson with the SRHS Cancer Center said, “Even if you don’t have a history of smoking, you still could be potentially at risk for developing lung cancer. Just be aware that this is something you need to talk to your providers about. Am I at risk? Do I need to be screened? And how do I avoid or get off of tobacco if I am using it?”
Today’s takeover was a part of a week-long, nationwide American Lung Association program.
