TSA rolls out new $45 ID fee for travelers without Real ID
GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- If you’re planning to fly soon, a new TSA policy would mean paying extra just to get through security.
Passengers who show up to the airport without an acceptable form of identification, like Real ID or a passport will be given the option to pay a $45 fee to verify their ID and still fly.
The fee covers a ten-day travel period and applies to anyone who does not have Real ID, passport, or other approve identification at the checkpoint.
Officials say most travelers are already prepared, but those who aren’t should expect longer wait times and possible delays.
TSA claims the easiest way to avoid the fee and the wait is to update your ID before your next trip.
