TSA provides tips on traveling with a firearm
Representatives of the TSA stopped by the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport to provide insight on traveling tips.
The TSA provided details on how best to pack your bags for a flight and how to properly pack a firearm.
Nationwide, the TSA is seeing an uptick in intercepted weapons at checkpoints.
TSA officers have intercepted two firearms at the security checkpoint at Gulfport-Biloxi just this year.
Kim Jackson, the state director for federal security, shares how to safely travel with your firearms.
“First of all, know, pack your own bag know what’s in your bag. And then of course if you’re going to travel with a firearm,” said Jackson. “Make sure that you declare that firearm once you get your airline that you’re flying with. Mississippi is an open carry law. And I think for those reasons, I think that is the reason for the uptick and people just forgetting that they have firearms in their bags.”
If declared ahead of time, there is no restrictions on firearms.
If intercepted, a passenger has the option of returning the weapon to their home or surrendering it where they will not receive it back.
