TSA holds K9 explosive detection demo at Gulfport Biloxi International

The Transportation Security Administration at Gulfport Biloxi International Airport held an explosive detection demonstration with its K9 unit this afternoon.

TSA K9 Handler Michael Caleb Mabry and his K9 Dallas held the demonstration in the airport’s foyer. The team showcased how the dog’s nose detects suspicious luggage.

The briefing emphasized that these teams serve as critical layers of security at airports. MS TSA Federal Security Director Kim Jackson said, “After talks with our airport directors frequently and we saw the need to increase the posture for and add an extra layer of protection in the screening process.”

Mabry said, “With recent events, 9/11 and all that, is a key component to keeping the traveling public safe is to have that extra level of protection because these dogs can do a lot more than we can do on our own. They’re pretty incredible animals.”

Currently, the TSA Mississippi’s explosive detection K9 unit consists of three dogs.
