TSA and Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport offer travel tips
With traveling on the rise, the TSA at Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport wants to make sure travelers navigate the airport and the checkpoint system safely and efficiently.
Passenger boarding at GPT-Biloxi Airport has been increasing every month since January. Last month, the airport had 32,660 boardings, an increase of 1,328 passengers from June 2019.
To help protect travelers and staff, checkpoint technology has been implemented. Passengers can now insert their own ID into the machines and boarding passes.
Facemasks are still required for passengers and employees. Along with these safety measures, TSA also emphasizes the importance of prohibited items while traveling.
Each time a TSA officer has to open a carry-on bag due to prohibited items, it slows down the line. State of Mississippi Federal Security Director Kim Jackson said, “Some of these items can be put in different baggage. We have what we call check baggage and carry-on baggage. Some of those items are definitely not allowed. Prohibited items are not allowed in carry-on baggage, but they could be allowed into their check baggage.”
Leaving home without your prohibited items will help facilitate the checkpoint experience, reduce touchpoints during a pandemic, and overall reduce your travel stress.
