Trump Calls for Muslim Shutdown in U.S.

Presidential candidate Donald Trump’s words are once again the center of a lot of controversy after proposing a ban on Muslims wishing to enter the states. Today, we spoke with local residents who had strong opinions on his brash statements.
Presidential hopeful Donald Trump said, “Donald J. Trump is calling for a complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what the hell is going on. We have no choice.” That statement read by Trump is creating waves. Some articles are even comparing Trump to infamous Nazi Dictator Adolf Hitler.
Here on the Coast, some supporters stand behind his message. Coast resident Brandi McCrory said, “I totally agree with him. I think that he’s very rational on that decision and I support it completely.”
Born and raised on the Coast, McCrory stands in support of Trump, saying he’s not a religious intolerant tyrant but in light of recent terrorist attacks, he’s seeking what’s best for the country. “I think right now, in the state that this country is in, it’s just not a good time to bring in any outsiders and whether they be of that nationality or not, it’s just not the time,” said McCrory.
Trump’s harsh call to action has many leaders speaking out in opposition. State wide, Governor Phil Bryant said, “You can’t just paint with that broad brush that says everyone who happens to be a Muslim is someone who should not be allowed in this country.” On the national level, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said, “Not only are there many Muslims serving in our armed forces, dying for this country, but there are Muslims serving right here in the House, working every day to uphold and defend the Constitution. Some of our best and biggest allies in this struggle and fight against radical Islamic terror are Muslims.”
Coast resident Joan Dedeaux is not on the Trump wagon but she does see a need for more government involvement with those entering into the states. “He’s done lost his mind. I think he’s going crazy. They just need a background check that’s really, really good before they let them in there.”
Coast Muslim Dawud Salaam tells News 25 in a statement that he does not believe the House and Senate would pass a law that would legalize such a ban.
