Tropical storm prep in Jackson County

Jackson County is also gearing up for Tropical Storm Alberto with more than ten different sand bag sites.

Some of the locations include Central Division Roads Department in Vancleave, Ocean Springs Public Works, and Jackson County Fairgrounds in Pascagoula. Most locations are a self-fill and carry service so residents will need to bring their own shovels.

Pascagoula Mayor Dane Maxwell tells News 25 although the weather will be severe, Jackson County has prepped for situations like this for years. “People just have to wait and hold tight where they are and give our drainage system an opportunity to evacuate it out. Sometimes people get in a big hurry. That’s what we are asking them to do. Don’t get in a hurry. Let the drainage system do its job and if it is overwhelmed it will eventually come back and pick it up and move it out.”

Doug Adams with the Pascagoula Police Department said, “Folks need to listen to their local police department, emergency management, look at the web pages and look at the news. Just listen to what’s going on and how things are progressing over the weekend.”

Mayor Maxwell says if Tropical Storm Alberto puts people in harm’s way he will impose a curfew.
