Trio of Moss Point Girls Basketball standouts head to the next level
For Signing Day at Moss Point, a trio of girls basketball standouts put pen to paper to continue their careers at the next level.
Michaela Payton and Morgan Sullivan heading to Southwest Mississippi Community College together and then Ar’yonna Miller letting the ink dry with East Central.
This season, the three-headed monster accounted for more than 78 percent of Moss Point’s scoring en route to a third-round playoff appearance.
Overall, Payton and Miller have been a part of 12 post-season wins on varsity, ten for Sullivan, including their 2020 run to the 4A State Championship game. Payton said, “I’m going to miss it, but I did what I needed to do and got what I needed to get done.”
Sullivan said, “I feel great, too. I’m glad I’m able to play at the next opportunity and to keep playing with Michaela for two more years. ”
Miller said, “I feel like we’ve built like a sisterhood here, so they can pick up on what we left, stuff like that.”
Head Coach Ethan Porter said, “It does mean a lot. These girls have been here since they were freshmen – except for Morgan – she came in at the beginning of her sophomore year, but have done so much for this program over the last four years, and I’m just glad to see their hard work finally paying off. That’s what’s so special about them. I knew that no matter what, they wanted to win. And that was the most important thing for them.”
The Lady Tigers made three consecutive Final Four appearances from 2019 to 2021.
