Back Bay Dentistry Offers Free Care

Patients were all smiles today at Back Bay Dentistry in D’iberville as they filed in to receive dental care without opening their wallets. News 25’s Laurene Callander has the full report on Dentistry from the Heart.
Cathalina Therrell describes the pain from her wisdom tooth as unbearable and has been struggling with the discomfort for over a year. But removing her tooth is not simple or cheap. “It’s just so many places, three, four, five hundred dollars and just can’t afford that.”
Therrell heard about Back Bay Dentistry offering free dental care and camped outside the building before sunrise to guarantee a spot in the chair. She was not going to miss the opportunity to remove the troublesome molar without having to open her wallet. “I appreciate everything they are doing and I know a lot of people do too. It’s a great thing.”
Back Bay Dentistry is providing free simple fillings and extractions and every dentist is working today for free but they say it is worth it. Lead dentist Dr. Jeremy Parker said, “We feel really blessed to be able to be in this position to offer this but we’re really touched by everyone in the community, by the patients we’re able to see and even the people that just give us a pat on the back along the way.”
Dentistry from the Heart is a national nonprofit providing free dental care to those in need. Back Bay Dentistry joined the annual event in 2009. Last year, the dentist’s office served over 80 patients. They hope to break 100 this year. Billie Ming brought a family member to get dental care. She said, “I think it’s wonderful. It gives a sense of family in the community to know that someone cares enough to help.”
Helping others with no return, after all, you can’t put a price on spreading smiles.
