Trench rescue training in Gulfport

Firefighters in South Mississippi are brushing up on their trench rescue skills right here in Gulfport.
Trench rescue involves sides caving in or a person becoming stuck during an infrastructure project like laying ditches, pipes or wires below grade.
Firefighters from Gulfport, Biloxi, Hattiesburg, Ocean Springs and more gathered in Gulfport to refresh rescue procedure.
Officials with Task Force Three, who conduct this training, tell News 25 there is a reason firefighters go through these demos every year. Task Force 3 Deputy Leader Will Lewis said, “Usually if we’re called, somebody’s life is in danger and we want to show up and perform proficiently and safely. So just to keep them current it’s part of the task force training mandate we hit those skills at least once every year so they’re current so if they’re called on the task that they can do the task.”
Nine agencies are involved in Task Force Three which covers the lower region of the Magnolia State.
