Tree planted at Gulfport High in honor of Judge Dan Russell Jr

Gulfport High School and officials continue to remember the legacy of Judge Dan Russell Jr.

A tree was planted in the courtyard at the school to honor Judge Russell’s life and many accomplishments in the community.

Russell graduated from Gulfport High School. He was a member on the debate team and was editor for the school newspaper.

Russell presided over many civil and criminal cases in Mississippi. Harrison County Supervisor Connie Rockco said, “I think it is very important to remember people that have served and put in so much time and service. I think that now the children will pass that or maybe sit under that tree one day and say ‘Judge Russell, oh he was the gentleman that did so much for our community,’ that’s why we’re here.”

Russell died April 16th, 2011 at the age of 98.
