Traveling baseball in Ocean Springs
For most teenage boys, when school lets out for summer it’s time to hit the baseball diamond. Some families spend most of their summertime on the road traveling from tournament to tournament around the country. One team traveled to Ocean Springs from a little further than usual.
A baseball team from Kuwait traveled to the U.S. to play in this year’s tournament. Thirty-seven teams are competing in the tournament, but the Kuwait baseball team made the longest trip by far, over seven thousand miles.
Two of the three teams that traveled to the tournament made it to the championship today. The coach of the 14 and under Kuwaiti team explains the reason this group traveled such a long way. Head Coach Dan Tresch said, “We’ve come to a national’s tournament before a few years ago and we really like the kid friendly atmosphere that the nationals bring so we decided to bring back three teams this year. We have kids from all over the world we have British kids, Indian kids, Kuwait kids, American kids. So, we just all came together and decided to come back here.”
Coach Tresch says the team has a 20 hour flight back to Kuwait in the morning, but he looks forward to coming back to the national’s tournament in Ocean Springs.
