Trash chute on downtown Pascagoula building catches fire

A fire broke out this morning at a building under renovation in downtown Pascagoula.

Chief Hyler Krebs said the construction company working on the renovation was using a trash chute.

Something in the chute caught fire and it went up the chute. Pascagoula Fire Department had to use its ladder truck to extinguish flames.

Krebs said they had the fire under control in about 10 minutes, but had to shut down Magnolia Street between Delmas and Convent avenues to set up the ladder truck.

He said there were no injuries.
