Transfer of Operations Underway for Head Start Program
The Community Development Institute has taken over the administration of the Coast’s Head Start Program after a meeting with the Gulf Coast Community Action Agency.
According to a statement released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, who yanked the $9 million in annual funding of the program after the GCCAA’s failure to properly address abuse allegations, today’s meeting focused on “the transfer of facilities, hiring of qualified staff, transferring child files, receiving licenses from the state of Mississippi to operate the facilities and ensure the facilities meet the Head Start Program performance standards.”
The Head Start Program services 1,368 children in Harrison County, who began a two week holiday break yesterday. While teachers will have to re-apply for their jobs, officials say they expect the Head Start Program to be back on track when it’s scheduled to reopen on January 5th.
