Traintastic holds special event for senior citizens

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- All aboard the fun in Gulfport where local seniors got the chance to step back in time and connect with new friends.

It was all smiles at Traintastic in Gulfport, where those 55 and older gathered for the senior social, a free event designed to bring the community together.

Guests were able to get out, meet new friends, enjoy treats, and refreshments, all while dancing to classic tunes, and playing games.

Organizers say that it’s about more than just fun, it’s about fostering connections and offering a space to make new friends in a welcoming environment. Executive Director Meredith Horn said, “Our goal was to just celebrate, celebrate them, celebrate the seniors, give them something to do, something unique. Traintastic is just a special place that host the world’s largest model railroad layouts. To bring that to them, for folks that have never seen these model layouts, and give them a little nostalgia, little bit of history, coffee goes along way too as well.”

Attendees Marcia Todd said, “This place is wonderful. When you’re in a home like we are, we love getting out and seeing different activities in the community. This is one of the places they brought us. I really enjoyed it and I’m gonna bring my grandkids.”

This is one of many events Traintastic hopes to host for the senior community and they have many events planned for the future.
