Train carrying chlorine stops in Harrison County due to mechanical fire

Earlier today, there were reports of a mechanical fire on a train carrying chlorine, north of Pass Christian.

The train was traveling on tracks just south of I-10 when it stopped near Menge Avenue.

According to Harrison County Fire Chief Pat Sullivan, the chlorine on the train could have posed a potential threat. As a precaution, part of Menge Avenue was blocked off and nearby buildings were evacuated.

Harrison County fire crews were there to monitor the situation, but the flames on the engine extinguished on their own.

No one was injured and traffic is moving smoothly now.
