Trailblazers made touchdowns as Girls Flag Football officially launches in South Mississippi!
Prepare to be inspired by Jackson County Schools as trailblazers make touchdowns to officially launch flag football for girls in South Mississippi.
East Central, St. Martin and Vancleave high school joined together to make history by introducing their inaugural teams and breaking in their cleats with 20 minute round robin games.
Athletes from each team realize what a big moment this is for girls in sports and hope this causes a chain reaction all across the magnolia state.
“It’s amazing, I never thought it would happen!” said East Central Senior, Shyleigh Willis. “We do powder puff every year and it’s so much fun and I wanted to play so bad and when they said they were having it this season I was like, ‘Yes!’ and I signed up immediately.”
“It means a lot to us,” said Vancleave Junior, Anna Carraway. “We’ve come a lot closer as people and friends and I think it’s a really fun thing to be doing as setting history.”
“As females we’re told we can’t do a lot and as much as males, so you can. Whoever told you you can’t you can,” said St. Martin Senior, Kylan Jenkins.
The flag football season will officially kick off next Thursday in Picayune. WXXV is looking forward to promoting and highlighting this incredible opportunity for our female athletes on the coast!
