Tony Smith Runs for Public Service Commissioner
With Kemper Power Plant costs rising at every turn, State Legislator Tony Smith is stepping up to the plate to protect customers.
Smith is running for Public Service Commissioner, a position that would allow him to work on behalf of the people.
As Mississippi tries to recruit industrial leaders and economic development projects, Smith says The Magnolia State must have competitive energy costs.
Smith believes he could continue his strong service to the people of South Mississippi in a new role as Public Service Commissioner, just as he has as a State Legislator.
“My job is to make sure the ratepayers of Mississippi pay the least amount. Right now on average we’re 20% lower than the national average when it comes to utility costs. And I think we need to maintain policies in our rulings that would keep us competitive from that view point. But the rate payers are the most important people here, and we have to make sure they have a voice.”
