Today marks the 17th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina’s landfall

Today marks 17 years since Hurricane Katrina forever changed the face of South Mississippi.

The storm made landfall as a strong category three hurricane on August 29th, 2005 with winds in excess of 120 miles per hour.

The devastation was wide-spread. The record storm surge tossing casinos across Highway 90, burying Beach Boulevard under rubble, wiping out thousands of structures across our coastline.

In all, 238 people lost their lives in Mississippi.
