Today is National Pizza Day

It’s National Pizza Day!

News 25 honored the cheesy holiday by visiting Sal and Mookie’s in Biloxi.

They encourage celebrating the day by grabbing a slice at your favorite locally owned restaurant. They say locally owned restaurants like theirs offer a more family-friendly dining environment and dishes that cater to southern taste buds.

For example, they’re selling their king cake dessert pizza and won’t forget to bring the Coast favorite French dipping sauce to the table: Catalina.

If you’re a Catalina-sauce lover, Sal and Mookie’s Assistant Manager Robyn Carroll has another condiment suggestion for you. “Try honey. Little drizzle of honey on there. I tried it out west when I went to Arizona and it complimented the pizza very well. Just a little bit of honey. I have a lot of people come in and ask for it and I tried it and absolutely love it. It’s kind of like Catalina with the sweetness, so I think it would be a very big thing down here.”

If honey on your pizza doesn’t sound too sweet, some of the restaurant’s most popular pies are the Screamin’ Sicilian and Riker’s Island.
