Today is International Beer Day

Today is International Beer Day, a day set aside to enjoy beer, drink up with friends, and learn the history of beer and the production process.

Beer is one of the oldest and most widely consumed alcoholic drinks in the world.

News 25 caught up with Chandeleur Island Brewing Company in Gulfport where they produce, package, and sell their own products.

The company’s vision is to handcraft some of the best-tasting ales on the Gulf Coast, using only the finest, freshest malted barley, hops, and local ingredients. Chandeleur Island Brewing Company Head Brewer Katie Turner said, “So, beer is actually built up of four components: water, yeast, hops, and grain. So, my job is really to produce sugars and those sugars be converted into alcohol and grains and yeast are used for flavor profiles, hops as well.”

Along with International Beer Day, today is also International Oyster Day and Chandeleur Island Brewing Company has partnered with Gulf Blue to produce an oyster stout beer.

That beer will be released in the fall.
