‘Tis the time to recycle Christmas trees
‘Tis the season to recycle.
Now that Christmas is behind us, it’s time to take down our Christmas trees and if you have a live Christmas tree there are plenty of places where you can drop your tree off while saving taxpayer dollars and the environment.
Both Harrison and Jackson counties have several drop-off sites for Christmas trees that will ultimately be recycled. Two of the main locations in Harrison County are at the Courthouse Road Pier and Plant Watson on Cowan Road.
Project organizers say recycling helps keep trees out of the landfills, along with other benefits. Harrison County Beautification Commission Director Kelly Griffin said, “And we take them up to the Woolmarket Work Center to be mulched. The last day to drop your tree off is January 19th. So, after that time our road department and sand department will get the trees up to the road department for us, get them mulched up, and they’ll be used at various county buildings, senior centers, parks, fairgrounds, that sort of thing.”
Be sure to strip your tree of its stand, any lights, and all decorations. The Harrison County Recycling Program is sponsored by the Harrison County Beautification Commission and Mississippi Power. The Jackson County Recycling Program is sponsored by the county and drop off sites will be accepting live trees through the end of the month.
