The time to start preparing for hurricane season is now

Hurricane season officially starts June 1st and officials say the time to start preparing is now.
Governor Phil Bryant has declared May 29th through June 2nd as Hurricane Preparedness Week in Mississippi to ensure residents are prepared for the upcoming tropical weather season. This year also marks the 12 year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency will provide valuable preparedness information throughout the week on their social media pages.
MEMA says one of the first steps you should take in preparing for tropical weather is to create or restock an emergency supply kit with things like non-perishable food, battery powered radio, extra batteries, copies of important documents and more.
Hurricane season runs through November 30th. You can download the 2017 MEMA Hurricane Preparedness Guide at MSEMA.org.
