Thunderbirds returning to the Gulf Coast in April

The Air Force’s Thunderbirds will be roaring back across the Coast in April and guests can expect fireworks, smoke displays, and unique maneuvers in their fully revamped performance.

Thunder over the Sound is a unique, one-of-a-kind partnership between Keesler Air Force Base and the City of Biloxi.

The airshow will be divided into two portions. The morning portion, which takes place at Keesler, will feature aerial performances, ground demonstrations and military aircraft static displays along with a STEM expo.

The afternoon portion will take place along Biloxi Beach. Maj. Jeffrey ‘Simmer’ Downie said, “We designed the show to look like a fireworks display. So, it’s going to open up with a bang. It’s going to be changes in the tempo, crescendos, there are going to be finales, false finales, and it’s just incredible action. It’s 20 seconds from smoke on to smoke off, just airplanes passing all over, sneak passes. It’s exhilarating. It’s a very coherent show. It goes with the music very well.”

City of Biloxi Public Affairs Manager Cecilia Dobbs Walton said, “It’s just amazing. It’s going to be exciting. It’s something that the city is looking forward to. It’s just going to show a great relationship that the City of Biloxi has with the military. Being able to have this performance on the Coast just also shows where we live. We are on the Coast. We are over the water front. We are able to have these types of amazing shows.”

The Thunder over the Sound Air Show is scheduled for April 29th and 30th.
