Three locals win awards presented by the Mississippi Baseball Coaches Association!

Now that football season is beginning to wrap up, baseball season is just around the corner! The Mississippi Baseball Coaches Association recently met in Philadelphia to honor some of the very best in the Magnolia State.

The first award goes to the public high school coach of the year, which is George County’s very own Brandon Davis! This past season, Coach Davis led the rebels to a 6A State Championship win while also receiving his 400th career win in his 20 year career. He will also begin his new role as the Assistant Athletic Coordinator at George County in January. Congratulations, Coach Davis!

The next award is for the 2-year college coach of the year, and that goes to Pearl River Community College’s Michael Avalon! This past year, Avalon led the Wildcats to a program record of 49 wins and the program record of a 29-game winning streak. Coach Avalon has also won the MACCC Coach of the year award three times during his career. Congratulations Coach Avalon!

Lastly, he wasn’t able to make it most likely due to playing ball in Maryland, but the 2-year college player of the year goes to the East Central and PRCC alum, Hollis Porter! Porter finished the year with a .399 batting average which included 20 home runs, 21 doubles, and four triples. He is now playing baseball at the University of Maryland. Congratulations Hollis and congratulations to all of our local baseball stars!
