Three Coast high schools named best in state
Many of us on the Coast know that our local schools are second to none. Now, multiple Coast schools are being recognized on a state level for being the best.
The Coast has a lot to be proud of including our education system. Three Coast high schools placed in the top 10 for best in the state according to U.S. News and World Report. Tenth grader Sara Nance said, “I am definitely not surprised and that we are an amazing school whether it is academics, sports, we give one hundred percent at everything we do and it really is what makes us excel as a school and puts us in the top.”
Gulfport High School came in at number ten. The list ranks the schools on a variety of things including college readiness which is something that senior Carson Miller says Gulfport prepared her for. “Being a senior and experience different types of trips through clubs and being competitive against other schools I noticed that Gulfport has prepared me way better than other schools have. I feel ahead of the game.”
At Gulfport High School it’s about more than just education, they strive to make the lives of their students better every single day. One way they do this is by offering 40 different clubs. Principal Michael Lindsey said, “To me that is what is so impressive about Gulfport High School is our students are able to excel in so many different areas which in turn gives them a purpose here at the high school and gives them a sense of belonging.”
English teacher Jessica Lopez says the students and staff are continually striving for excellence. “We are always committed to doing our best no matter what and what is really best for the students as well.”
Other schools who made the top ten were Ocean Springs and Pass Christian.
