This week is Severe Weather Preparedness Week
It’s Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Mississippi and the Harrison County Emergency Management wants to make sure you’re ready.
The week is designated by Governor Tate Reeves to remind residents to prepare for the upcoming spring severe weather season and hurricane season beyond that.
Having essential supplies, such as flashlights, non-perishable food, and plenty of water at the ready in the event that you lose power is important. As is making sure your phone is charged if severe weather is forecast.
Harrison County Emergency Management Director Matt Stratton also reminds residents to have a plan. “A couple of things to consider is your household or business emergency plan. You can write your plan specific to your household for things like transportation, gathering everyone together, and making sure that everybody knows your plan.”
Also be sure to have a way to receive alerts, whether it’s through our WXXV Weather Authority App or a NOAA radio.
Harrison County also offers alerts on shelters opening and evacuations. You can activate those alerts by texting HarCoInfo to 99411.
