Third Graders Taking Final Retest

The window for students who failed the “Third Grade Reading Gate” is closing with just two weeks left.
The Biloxi Public School District held a literacy camp for second grade students invited those who failed to join for extra help. Students received one on one tutoring from literacy coaches to hone in on their areas of weakness.
After final retesting, Biloxi Public Schools are proud to announce they improved from a 92 percent pass rate up to 99 percent of district third graders passing the test and being able to move on to the fourth grade.
Dr. Janice Johnson, assistant superintendent of Biloxi Public Schools, said, “Once we know how we’re going to be assessed and what we’ve got to use to measure students, we’ve always answered that call. So, it is validation that what we’re doing is working for the success of our students.”
The last day for students statewide to take the retest is August 7th.
