Third annual Spartan Weekend

Over 50 military veterans have just kicked off a weekend of relaxation and networking in D’Iberville.

The Spartan Alliance’s Third Annual Spartan Weekend began this afternoon at the Scarlet Pearl with a meet and greet.

Spartan Weekend allows veterans and their spouses and caregivers to form meaningful connections with other veterans and take part in events such as a mini-golf tournament and veterans resource expo.

Scott Botts with the Spartan Alliance says the event is important in forming bonds among veterans. “When you leave the military, you leave a part of you behind. Because for me, I was part of the Marine Corps for 18 years so that was a big part of my life. Now, it’s gone. This builds a community to where veterans will get to reach out to other veterans.”

A  warfighter gala also takes place on Saturday. Spartan Weekend runs until Sunday morning.
