The rise of new pickleball courts and facilities in Biloxi

The Wool Market Community Complex has had its courts opened since May, and since then has been providing a space for local residents to take part in one of the fastest growing sports in the country, pickleball. It’s now one of three public courts in Biloxi which have popped up to serve the growing demand for the sport, allowing veterans and rookies with several places to get involved within the sports community.

“I think its cool. I’m still new, I’m still learning the ropes and rules and stuff. I think it’s really interesting that you make all these different connections with so many different people here throughout the day,” said Katie Casiano, a pickleball player at the Wool Market courts.

Along Pass Rd the countdown has begun for the opening of The Picklr, a new indoor pickleball facility in Biloxi. It’s opening its doors in a matter of days, on December 14th. Speaking with the owner last month, David Johnston, he hopes the new facility will bring those pickleballers from Biloxi and all across South Mississippi together under one roof.

“Not only can you play seven days a week, eighteen hours a day if you wanted to, it has fifteen courts so you can bring a lot more people in there. So, where you have these small groups that play in a lot of different areas, this gives you one big place where everyone can all connect as a big community and come together and play together.”
