The Magnolia Way Salon gives free back-to-school haircuts to students
The Magnolia Way Salon is back for a second year of providing free back-to-school haircuts.
Everyone knows that feeling of having a fresh cut and feeling like a new person. That is the feeling the Magnolia Way Salon aims to give students as they head into the school year.
“When I was going to my car earlier, a little girl was walking out and she flipped her hair and goes ‘Look!’ and I was like ‘It looks beautiful!’. Kids get to go to school with their hair freshly cut and they feel good,” The Magnolia Way owner, Lauren Phillips said. “It makes them feel good about themselves and it makes us feel good.”
While free back-to-school haircuts have become a way for the salon to bring joy to children, it started as a way to say “thank you” for the support they’ve received.
“I feel like we’re helping families that you know can’t take five kids to get haircuts for back to school, and it makes the kids happy too,” Phillips said.
The salon has succeeded in helping parents, like mom of four Angela Cuj-Dominguez, who is just happy to have some relief from the stressful back-to-school preparation.
“It saves us money in a time where we’re already having to do so much to get ready for school. I am so grateful that The Magnolia Way has done this,” Cuj-Dominguez said. “We came last year and it was a great experience. I am really grateful for it.”
The Magnolia Way Salon plan to continue their free haircuts next year – and to make it even bigger.
