The Hattiesburg Regional is set for the 2025 NCAA Baseball Tournament

The road to Omaha comes through Hattiesburg! The Southern Miss baseball team now knows their field of play for the 2025 Hattiesburg regional. Starting on Friday, the Golden Eagles will welcome Alabama, Miami and Columbia to Pete Taylor Park. The newly named overall 16 seed was at Mugshots in Hattiesburg early Monday for the NCAA Baseball selection show. Head Coach Christian Ostrander and his players expressed their excitement for more baseball being played in the city of Hattiesburg.

“It feels great. I’m so proud for our players. I felt like they earned it,” said Head Coach Chrisitan Ostrander. “I said that yesterday after that loss, and really come to find out I think they did exactly what had to be done for us to get this host. We felt like keeping the streak going and getting to Sunday undefeated in that tournament would give us a shot. Obviously we wanted to win it, but Coastal is a really good team and they got us, but it’s time to start a new streak. Happy for the players, and happy for this community.”

“Really we just hate to lose especially in that championship game, but it really picked our spirits up,” said senior shortstop Ozzie Pratt. “We don’t have to get on a plane and go anywhere. We get to go home and play from home, so it’s really exciting that we’re back in Hattiesburg and we get to play more baseball at The Pete especially for my senior year and for Paetow’s his senior year. The last time we played at The Pete we didn’t know if we were going to be back, so we are really excited to be back. We’ve got to beat everybody. It doesn’t matter who comes in. The number one team, the number two team, who cares. We’ve got to beat everybody to make it to Omaha and we’ve got to beat everybody to win Omaha, so who cares who they throw at us, we’ve got to win.”

Southern Miss will face Columbia at 6pm Friday following the first matchup of Alabama and Miami at 2pm. WXXV Sports will bring you sights and sounds from “The Pete” all weekend long.
