The evolution of the Biloxi Second Liners Club
The Biloxi Second Liners Mardi Gras Club is celebrating 28 years of evolution here on the Coast.
The club was established in 1995 and had its inaugural parade in 1996. Betty Pollard, a founding member of the group, was inspired by the parades she saw on television and thought it would be a great idea to bring to Biloxi.
The Second Liners started off parading through the streets with wagons, bikes, and walkers, to now featuring floats, bands, and more.
Community service continues to be a focal point for the group. Backpack giveaways, scholarships, and food drives are just some of the ways the Second Liners continue to enrich their community. Second Liners Mardi Gras Club PR Director Pinkey Lewis said, “The thing I love most is I think is seeing the faces when we do things for people. The smiles, the hugs, some of them send us thank you cards or thank you letters, try to give us gifts. We’re doing for them because we love our community, our coastal community.”
The Second Liners Mardi Gras Parade will be held Saturday, February 18th at noon.
