‘The Art and Heart for Sculptors’ exhibit at MGCCC Jackson County

MGCCC hosted its opening for a new exhibit called “The Art and Heart of a Sculptor: Portraits in Bronze and Fired Clay’ featuring the artwork of Michelle Drane Smith.

The exhibit showcases 58 out of the 98 sculptures Smith has made. Smith has exhibited her work throughout Mississippi and New Orleans as well as San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

One of Smith’s most profound pieces is the life size bust of Pierre Lemoyne, sieur D’Iberville. Along with historical figures, she also showcases sculptures of her friends and family.

Smith tells News 25 she is humbled to be featured in the exhibit. “It feels good to look around and see all these people that I know so well and it encourages me to keep going. I am scheduled, if things are okay in the international affairs department and COVID department, I’m scheduled to hold a workshop in Turkey two weeks long in July of next year.”

The show will run until Friday, December 17th. The gallery hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
