The 29th annual PCA Finals Rodeo comes to the Coast Coliseum

TOP COWBOYS AND COWGIRLS COMPETE FOR CASH AND PRIZES

BUCKLES SADDLES AND WHOLE LOT OF CASH WILL BE GIVEN AWAY THIS WEEKEND.

It’s time to let er buck South Mississippi. The top 15 cowboys and cowgirls from across the country have all made it here to the Coast Coliseum to compete in the Professional Cowboy Association Finals Rodeo. Co-announcer Jeremy Coan says guests are in for a show. “Trust me, they’re going to bring their A game. You’re getting the top, not only the top contestants, but also the top quality livestock. So the buckin horses, the buckin bulls, they’ll be outstanding all week long. This is the finals so we crown are year end champions of the PCA.”

Cowboys and cowgirls will be competing for $150 thousand dollars in cash and prizes! Daily events will include bareback bronc riding, calf roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, break-a-way roping, ladies barrel racing, team roping, and bull riding.

“There’s nothing like watching the horses buck. When you get some good horse riders and we’ve got Joe Farren here number one man in the PCA standings, when you watch a guy like that who can ride a bucking horse and ride them correctly, it is so cool,” Coan says. “It’s just like poetry in motion to watch those guys do their jobs.”

Trick riders will also be entertaining spectators during halftime and intermission, providing more thrilling acts to the crowd. Trick rider Shelby Danison says, “Trick riding has been a sport, it’s been around for a long long time. It’s actually originated from the Russian class acts, so it used to be called class act riding, which they still perform class act riding and call it that over in Europe. But, it’s evolved into the western way of life and culture and something that cowgirls, it’s one of the first things cowgirls used to do in rodeo. They used to be able not to compete in rodeos. So it’s really cool to keep that alive.”

Chance Danison, who is also a trick rider, says the PCA is great way of spreading western culture and attracting new fans to the sport. “I think the opportunities it brings me with educating people on the western culture and rodeo, the more kids the more people that see what we do the more people we can get involved and grow the sport like it’s actually growing right now.”

On Sunday, the top cowboys and cowgirls in the rodeo will be crowned champion.
