Texas Attorney Mikal Watts Found Not Guilty

The verdict is in for the Texas lawyer accused of inflating his client list for Gulf Coast oil spill litigation.
San Antonio attorney Mikal Watts was found not guilty on all charges. Today marks the end of a five week trial.
Watts, who chose to represent himself in court, walked out of the Gulfport Federal Courthouse smiling from ear to ear, surrounded by family and friends.
A jury unanimously found Watts and his brother, David Watts, not guilty of 66 charges. “We were not part of a fraud,” said Watts, “We were the victims of a fraud and we showed that with overwhelming evidence. We didn’t rest behind a burden of proof. It was our goal as part of our defense to show this jury exactly what happened, who did it, how they did it, when they did it and how we were victimized by the fraudulent acts of others.”
Seven people faced 66 charges of fraud. Five of the seven people were found not guilty on all counts.The remaining two were found guilty on all charges of wire fraud, mail fraud, identity theft, and aggravated identity.
