Tensions High Between Cab Drivers & Motor Vehicle Authority
Independent taxi drivers feel Yellow Cab is working with the Motor Vehicle for Hire commissioners to push independent drivers out, but the commission feels a vehicle authority is needed to safely regulate the taxi industry in south Mississippi. One driver, Bryan Shaw, became a taxi driver after serving in the military. He now says he refuses to be regulated by a corrupt authority.
Shaw says, “Doing what was morally right to protect others and to protect a free nation and a free people from our enemies. I put my life on the line for this country, now I just enjoy a simple life as a cab driver, that’s what I chose to do.”
Biloxi is now considering doing away with the Motor Vehicle for Hire Authority after drivers spoke out against the organization at a public meeting Tuesday and during the City Council meeting.
