Teens picked the wrong house for alleged home invasion
Two Hattiesburg teenagers are in jail after allegedly choosing the wrong house for a home invasion.
The teens 15 and 17, are being held in the Forrest County Adult Detention Center charged currently with home invasion of an occupied dwelling. The abandoned vehicle is being processed to determine if the juveniles are associated with it. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
Forrest County Sheriff’s Office says a vehicle stolen in Hattiesburg early Saturday morning was found at the southern end of the county abandoned after it became disabled.
Shortly thereafter, two teens were in the area where the vehicle was found and decided to attempt a home invasion. The trouble is, the house belongs to a Stone County deputy. And he was home.
The teens were confronted by the deputy while they were in his home and the teens fled. While trying to escape, one of the teens fired on the deputy, but missed.
The deputy did not return fire, but was able to detain the other teenager, who was not armed, until Forrest County deputies arrived.
A few minutes later, Forrest County Constable Tommy Cook, who was driving north on Highway 49, stopped to see if he could be of help and reported that he saw a teenage walking south on the highway a short distance away.
The second teen was taken into custody without incident and a firearm was recovered.
