Teens donate food to Camille Village families in Pass Christian

A group of high schoolers in Pass Christian took time out of their weekend to drop off food for some neighborhood families.

Saniia Turner and her friends from the Delta Gems loaded up about 60 bags of food, each of which can feed four people. The bags included non-perishables and ingredients that can last families for more than just a day.

The Delta Gems coordinated with non-profit Extend a Hand, Help a Friend to offload the goods around Camille Village just off East North Street.

The nonprofits founder, Jeffery Hullum III, said he hopes that efforts from teens like Saniia who planned the drive herself will inspire other local kids to pay it forward. Saniia Turner said, “We just want to help out families where we can, and we’re passing out food today. Well due to COVID we’ve been limited on the things that we could actually do so this is my first big project that I’ve actually had the opportunity to help plan.”

The Delta Gems are part of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s Gulf Coast chapter.
