Tech Byte – Hi-Tech Camping
Patrick interviews Brian Fuente, Founder and CEO of Coast Trailers about the latest innovations in luxury travel trailers and campers.
With the holiday weekend upon us, and June being celebrated since the 70’s for national camping awareness month, Sophia and I got to take a look at a new tech company that’s inventing High Tech Camping. I’m Patrick Moates, welcome to this week’s Tech Byte brought to you by Rogers Technology Solutions.
Okay so we are joined by Brian Fuente of Coast trailers here on UTC’s campus in Chattanooga. Brian thank you for coming with us. Tell us about this trailer and why it’s appropriate for Tech Byte
Brian: well first of all thanks for having us today and uh in featuring this this is Coast model one so this is a fully electric luxury travel trailer. what I mean by that is it is solar powered it’s Lithium powered and you can live off grid for several days at a uh at a time so you don’t have to worry about plugging into utilities um there things like no black water as well so uh when you talk about setting up quickly and being ready to Camp um and travel comfortably this is this is the trailer for that so um you don’t have to worry about like I said plugging into utility so you’re literally powering this trailer from the Sun okay uh so you have 1,600 watts of solar on the roof and 22 KW hours of power of lithium power
“And will the solar recharge the battery as well?
Brian: that’s correct
“Okay, and the cool thing you showed me a minute ago is that all of this is controlled by a smartphone app?
Brian: that’s correct so the app communicates with the module inside so um what’s really neat is if say you’re out to dinner and you want to conserve your energy inside then say we’re wrapping up dinner and want to cool the cabin down to 68° then you just go on your app and turn the AC on to 68 and when you come back you can have a comfortable living situation has you arrive.
“What makes this trailer unique is that it’s made of fully composite materials that are 100% recycle materials so it’s very sustainable. It’s ultra-light weight and insulated when compared to a traditional RV so you don’t have to worry about wood needing to be replaced. The batteries have an impressive 11-year warranty AND they can charge up to negative 35 degrees. On cloudy days the camper can be plugged in to a 50 amp or 30-amp receptacle and it could even work as a generator for your home in the event of a power outage.
Patrick Back on Camera: The campers are supposed to be shipping out this summer so you can find more information at their website here on the screen.
If you’d like to see us feature your idea, or have questions about today’s episode, please shoot us an e-mail. I’m Patrick Moates, thank you for watching Tech Byte.
