Teams arrive for Billfish Classic in Biloxi

Boats are rolling into Point Cadet Marina in Biloxi and preparing for one of the top fishing tournaments in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic has grown into one of the premier fishing tournaments in the world. Headed into its 25th year, this year’s tournament includes over 80 boats from Key West to Corpus Christi and every point in between.
Tournament cash prizes now exceed one million dollars, attracting some of the top captains and crews in the sport. Fisherman James Galloway said, “This is what we do. It’s fun, but it’s not always fishing. We do a lot of pushing wax and polishing and stuff like that, but it is part of taking care of a boat.”
Nearly two million dollars was awarded in cash prizes last year, setting a new tournament record. The official Billfish Classic Welcome Party will be held at the Point Cadet Marina at 6 p.m. tomorrow.
