Tax Free Weekend recap

Over the weekend, people across the state of Mississippi hit the racks for Tax Free Weekend.

People could purchase items such as clothing, shoes, and school and arts supplies that cost $100 or less with no sales tax. This sales tax free weekend has been going on in Mississippi for ten years. Every year places like the Gulfport Premium Outlets gear up and offer even more sales on top of the already eliminated seven percent tax.

This year, the state of Louisiana did not offer a tax free weekend which created extra shoppers heading down to Mississippi to make their purchases. “I think Louisiana not having that tax free brought people over and of course, we get people from Alabama too that want to take advantage. We did see a lot more influx of that market. Also, just tourists that were just staying here and found out about the tax free and wanted to come shop with us.”

For the impulse buyers out there, there is no rule that purchases made during Tax Free Weekend have to be final. Be prepared to pay tax on post-holiday exchanges.
