Task Force Tackles Literacy in State
A task force on teacher preparation for early literacy instruction released recommendations on how to improve child literacy in the state.
The task force was created by Governor Phil Bryant. It was formed in June 2016 and is made up of three working groups. The three groups released 21 recommendations for the state to follow when it comes to early and late literacy.
The most important recommended changes from the first two groups were in relation to teachers completing professional development and its importance of making sure teachers follow what they’ve learned.
The last group recommended standardized entry, literacy coursework, and exit requirements for students in traditional undergraduate and alternate route course work.
